Fluorite

Fluorite

Fluorite (also called fluor-spar) is a mineral composed of calcium fluoride. As well as ornamental uses, Fluorite is used in the making of hydrofltoric acid, and as a flux in the manufacture of steel. The name fluorite is derived from the Latin fluo, meaning "flow", in reference to its use as a flux. There are English Fluorite specimens which come from Weardale, Co Durham, UK. It classically has beautiful banding in purple, blues & greens.
