Knotting

Knotting

Knotting with silk is a very traditional method for stringing beads & pearls. The theory being, if the strand were to break you would only lose one bead as the rest remain securely knotted. This technique may need a little practice, but nowadays the tools exist to help you master this technique easily. Classically this technique is done with tweezers & an awl. Although knotter tools are frequently used as they help achieve the correct tension and are less fiddly to use.

Tips:

Choose a thread diameter closest to your bead hole size to stop abrasion of the thread

Silks such as the Griffin thread are pre-threaded onto a needle, saving the hassle of threading needles

Use a precision glue to secure the starting & finishing knots of your design

Classically used for pearls but try using this technique with other beads & colourful silks

A vast selection of pearls &  beads can be found in the Beads section of our Bead Shop
